Bar100 Review

I was in the Circular Quay area waiting for our Tall Ships Vivid cruise and as we were early we decided we might as well find a bar for a pre-cruise drink.

Bar100 was close by just opposite the Overseas Passenger Terminal and tempted us in with their Vivid specials menu which included Mulled Wine! Yum. I absolutely love mulled wine (the good home-made stuff!) and I have yet to have it since being out in Australia, but as it was quite a chilly evening, this sounded like an even better idea by the minute.

Mulled Wine reminds me of cold winter nights in the UK where you want to warm up when you’re walking around night markets or sitting by a log fire in a country pub and is one of the things I look forward to most during winter.

Bar100 has various levels and the first level we found was the Level 2 Terrace. This was an outside covered area, but a lot of people were smoking out here and as it was also quite loud due to the TV for sports, we decided it was best to sit inside close to the bar which was quieter, but later got busy.

I was immediately greeted by the delicious aroma of mulled wine and there was no way I could turn this down, especially as it only cost $10. There was a massive keg for decoration I assume and the mulled wine was in a smaller keg and was nice and hot, served in a copper like mug with a piece of orange.

Mulled Wine

We took a seat on the high table with stools by the window and people watched, wondering where they were off to. My drink was quite hot, but when it had cooled down it tasted absolutely amazing and was very warming with winter spices. Ingredients included red wine, Cointreau, ginger, cloves, fresh nutmeg, sugar, cinnamon and orange. It honestly is one of the best mulled wines I’ve had in years and so much better than that horrible packet stuff which is definitely NOT mulled wine, nor is that bottled stuff which is slightly better, but does not beat the real home-made concoction!

As the mulled wine was that good that I have been back since to try it again! I’ve got to make the most of it whilst it’s on the menu!

Bar100 also has a restaurant at the back, but there are daily $10 specials including soup, burgers and pizza that you can order at the bar if you are feeling a little bit peckish. From what I could see from those around me, the food looked tasty and very appetising, and the pizzas would be perfect for sharing if you are wanting a small snack.

We didn’t stay here for too long, but had a very pleasant time and I was definitely nice and warmed up by the time we left. Overall, we had a great time and I’m sure I will be back – Bar100 watch out, I need that mulled wine recipe!
