Breakfast at the Orangery Restaurant Review

Getting away and exploring the country is something I always love to do and I recently ventured to the beautiful Blue Mountains for a weekend escape with my boyfriend.

We were lucky enough to stay at the Lilianfels Resort & Spa within Katoomba during July and our package included a sumptuous breakfast in the Orangery Restaurant.

I’ve always been told that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and I couldn’t disagree more with this. I simply cannot function without eating breakfast! Normally, during the week I have to satisfy my rumbling stomach with a bowl of cereal before heading to work, but whenever I go away I love to treat myself to a wholesome breakfast, and today I was definitely in for a treat.

The Orangery Restaurant is bathed in plenty of natural light and the buffet breakfast served here is renowned as being one of the best in the region, so I couldn’t wait to try it out.

Breakfast at the Orangery Restaurant is served between 7am until 10am Monday to Friday, whilst at the weekend this is extended until 10.30am. We were staying at Lilianfels Sunday night which meant the hotel was quieter and when we arrived for breakfast on Monday morning around 8.30am we were one of the first few diners here.

We were greeted by friendly waiters and a black and white tiled patterned floor against a large open spaced restaurant which was kept intimate and simple with plain orange walls decorated with paintings.

We were seated by the window and our waiter took our order for poached eggs cooked to order. The buffet breakfast here was a lavish affair with a selection of fresh fruit juices, tea and coffee, alongside an array of cold and hot dishes set within the centre of the room over a number of stations.

I started with a fresh orange juice followed by some fresh fruit including watermelon, grapes alongside some smoked salmon, ham and salami. After this I helped myself to the hot options which included bacon, sausages, potatoes, mushrooms and tomatoes, whilst there are a variety of breads to choose from for toast. I had some toast with butter and marmalade, but of course there are jams, Nutella and vegemite to make the most of too if you prefer. The sausages were nicely cooked, whilst the bacon was crispy balanced by the juiciness of the mushrooms.

Our poached eggs soon arrived and these were perfectly cooked and runny inside, just the way I like them.

I finished off with some cheese and biscuits which was very dangerous as I could have ate the whole block of cheese if I wasn’t careful!

Other breakfast items that I didn’t take advantage of were the Danish pastries, whilst there was a good selection of cereals to satisfy your hunger as well.

Preserved Fruit

By the end of breakfast I was happily satisfied and my hunger was put to rest, until lunchtime at least! The Orangery Restaurant by the time we left was pretty full of hungry patrons.

Overall, the Orangery Restaurant clearly does a hearty buffet breakfast and makes a great way to start your day. The next time you’re in the Katoomba area, or in fact staying at Lilianfels, be sure to arrive at the Orangery Restaurant hungry to make the most of this beautiful and sumptuous breakfast feast.
