Pottery Green Bakers - Lane Cove

What better way to spend a lazy Sunday morning then by enjoying a late morning brunch in a casual café in Sydney. That’s exactly what I was feeling like today and we soon found ourselves in leafy Lane Cove. The Sunday Markets were on and were buzzing with activity on this unusually warm Winter’s day. After meandering and browsing through the markets, my fiancée and I soon came across Pottery Green Bakers – a rustic looking café with seating outside as well as inside.

Pottery Green Bakers was already bustling with people when we arrived, however we managed to find a table inside. This café is long and narrow with wooden tables all in a line against a brick wall, whilst the ceiling has wooden beams running along the top making this café feel all cosy, warm and welcoming.

Opposite where we were sat there were glass cabinets full of delicious looking cakes and pastries including cute little gingerbread men, muffins, opera cake, tarts, cookies and much more. This really got our tastebuds working, but I was more in the mood for something savoury.

The Pottery Green Bakers menu was just as substantial as the cake cabinets. First we were greeted by the All Day Breakfast choices which included everything from sourdough toast, traditional smoked ham and cheese croissant and hearty bacon and egg rolls as well as breakfast baguettes with signature gourmet fillings including smoked salmon and scrambled egg, pork and herb chipolatas and a vegetarian option of roast thyme tomatoes, toast capsicum and bocconcini cheese and rocket. For sweet tooths then the French toast is always an option too, which comes with maple syrup and crispy bacon!

For those like us who arrive after 11am then you can enjoy Pottery Green Bakers’ lunch menu until 3pm. There were rustic quiches and homemade steak pies, noodle salads, as well as their special Vietnamese pho beef noodle soup which looked and smelled absolutely amazing – a great winter warmer dish.

I ended up going for one of their gourmet baguettes – the grilled Portuguese chicken baguette with lettuce, tomato, rocket and chilli mayo sauce with extra chilli on top. As Pottery Green Bakers has a Vietnamese influence, there were of course classic Vietnamese Pork Banh Mi which was also tempting me, especially as I have recently returned from three weeks in beautiful Vietnam.

My fiancée ended up choosing the slow cooked pulled pork burger served in a broche bun which also came with a side of crunchy chips.

Pottery Green Bakers does not take your order at the table so you need to place your orders at the counter and collect a number for your food to be brought out to you. Ordering was easy and fast though and it didn’t take long for our food to arrive at our table.

My grilled Portuguese chicken baguette arrived at the table first and was a great portion size, overloaded with chicken and topped with plenty of hot red chilli. The grilled Portuguese chicken was super tender and the chilli mayo kept everything succulent, with the crunch of the lettuce and crispiness of the baguette combining all flavours and textures perfectly.

Eating the baguette was slightly tricky due to its compactness, with some of the chilli mayo delightfully oozing out of the baguette; however this didn’t stop me from devouring the lot! It was utterly delicious with the warm heat of the chilli warming my belly. Of course if you can’t handle the heat of the chilli, you don’t have to have the extra chilli on top!

My fiancée’s burger came out shortly after mine and also looked just as appetising and the bowl of crunchy chips on the side was a very large portion size for the price of just $17. The chips were expertly crunchy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside that you could easily go back for more, and more, and more!
