Autumn is finally here in Sydney. As the clocks will go back on the first Sunday in April, I’m more inclined to enjoy those warmer, heartier meals, as well as enjoy a few more barbeques and picnics in the sunshine by the water.
The good news is that April is full of some awesome foodie days, starting off with Sourdough Bread Day on 1st April and Chocolate Mousse Day on 3rd April. However, Fish Fingers and Custard Day is a bit of a weird one that I won’t be partaking in.
Some of my favourite April national food days that I am most looking forward to include:
Caramel Popcorn Day (6th April)
There’s nothing better than the sweet delights of caramel popcorn when you’re in the cinema ready to watch the next blockbuster film. I personally hate the taste of salted popcorn so munching on a big bag or caramel popcorn instead is just the ticket!
Cheese Fondue Day (11th April)
If you know me well, you will know that I absolutely love cheese. However, enjoying cheese fondue is definitely a treat, especially if you’re in Switzerland! Rather than just dipping in crusty bread or baby potatoes, consider dipping in juicy king prawns, salami, pickles or even Mediterranean roasted peppers. The silky cheese is the perfect combination which you will be going back constantly for more!
Eggs Benedict Day (16th April)
What better way to start the day than with eggs benedict? You honestly can’t beat perfectly poached eggs on smoked salmon with crusty sourdough toast and that delicious béchamel sauce. I love to enjoy this as a leisurely breakfast or brunch at the weekend or order this when I’m on holiday as a treat.
Garlic Day (19th April)
Are you a garlic fan? I certainly am. I would quite happily add garlic to all my meals if I could. In fact, on the Isle of Wight, UK I remember visiting the Garlic Farm and enjoying garlic ice cream – a first for me! Whether you delight your tastebuds with garlic butter prawns or garlic mushrooms on toast, enjoy garlic flavoured cheese or make your own basil pesto with extra garlic, there’s so many combinations of garlic to enjoy. Plus, why not mix it up and sample black garlic or smoked garlic for a twist!
Jelly Bean Day (22nd April)
Jelly beans!! One of my favourite sweets and a whole day to enjoy them! Available in a variety of colours, these bean shaped sweets are the perfect sugar hit to get me through the afternoon, or to make moviethons that more tastier!
