August National Food Holidays Worth Celebrating

August might be peach month, but there are also plenty more foodie days to whet your appetite. Stock up your fridge for White Wine Day (3^rd August), India Pale Ale Day (5^th August) and International Beer Day (6^th August). Satisfy your stomach with Filet Mignon Day (13^th August) or enjoy something sweet with Pecan Torte Day (22^nd August).

Watermelon Day (3^rd August)

Anyone for watermelon? This delicious bright red juicy fruit is perfect on its own sliced or diced as one of your five a day or why not blend it into a refreshing smoothie for a morning pick-me-up.

Mustard Day (7^th August)

Are you a mustard fan? For me, it’s all about hot English mustard with my roast beef or a delicious Dijon mustard for a kick. The perfect accompaniment with your roast meats, it’s also a great addition to homemade sauces, cauliflower cheese or spread on cheese and ham sandwiches.

World Bratwurst Day (16^th August)

Did someone say sausage? I absolutely love the German Bratwurst sausage, accompanied by homemade red cabbage, pickles, onions and mustard in a crispy roll. You honestly can’t beat it and the best ones of course are in Germany from the stands in the streets.

Sponge Cake Day (23^rd August)

Who loves cake? I do, especially sponge cakes like the absolutely delicious and moreish Victoria Sponge. Filled with plenty of strawberry jam and cream, this cake is super easy to bake and is best enjoyed for morning or afternoon tea (or both!).

Toasted Marshmallow Day (30^th August)

What could be better than sitting around a camp fire, toasting marshmallows on sticks under a blanket of stars? Gooey marshmallows are definitely a childhood favourite when out camping and best enjoyed when telling stories around a toasty fire, wrapped in warm blankets.
