Hello February! The last month of summer is here for Sydneysiders and with the days still long, there’s plenty of opportunity to enjoy long summer days at the beach, cook up a BBQ or laze away with a picnic at the park.
Plus, February is jampacked with plenty of delicious national food days worth celebrating. Whether you’re a sweet tooth or savoury foods lover, February definitely has a national food day for you. This month starts on the sweet side with Baked Alaska Day and National Dark Chocolate Day on 1st February, but there’s plenty of savoury foods to look forward to too.
Here are just some of the other national food holidays this February that I can’t wait for.
Crepe Day (2nd February)
Who can resist the thin and delicate French-style pancakes known as crepes? Crepes Suzette is just one of my favourite desserts, but crepes with lemon and sugar, honey and orange or Nutella with strawberry are always a winner. Make your stack and indulge today!
Stuffed Mushroom Day (4th February)
Stuffed mushrooms make the perfect starter, lunch or party snack. Fill your Portobello Mushrooms with garlic, bacon pieces, breadcrumbs, herbs, sour cream and parmesan cheese and bake in the oven until crispy and golden.
Yorkshire Pudding Day (7th February)
One of the best parts of a Sunday roast dinner is the Yorkshire Pudding. Super simple and quick to make, the key to the perfect, well-risen, golden-brown Yorkshire Puds is a hot oven and keeping that oven door closed. I love to eat mine with horseradish sauce and gravy on the side. Better still, cook up a delicious roast diner and cook up a tray of Yorkshire puddings to enjoy with it.
Cherry Pie Day (20th February)
Anyone for pie? With cherries still in season, now is the perfect time to get baking and make a delicious cherry pie. I love to serve mine warm with vanilla ice cream. Better still, if you’re not a baker or feeling too lazy, visit your local bakery and buy one instead.
Tortilla Chip Day (24th February)
Get in the Mexican mood with a serving of tortilla chips. Eat them straight out of the bag with guacamole or salsa or enjoy them as nachos with chilli con carne. These triangle-shaped tortilla chips are typically made with yellow corn, but you can also make them with white, red or even blue corn!
