July National Food Holidays Worth Celebrating

July might be ice cream month, picnic month and horseradish month (roast beef anyone?), but it is also full of some amazing food days that will get you licking your lips and your tummies rumbling. From National Apple Turnover Day on 5th July to Chocolate Day on 7th July, you can also look forward to some delicious drinks including National Mojito Day (11th July), National Daiquiri Day (19th July) and Scotch Whisky Day (27th July).

Some of my other favourite July food days include:

National Barbecue Day (4th July)

I absolutely love a BBQ and moving to Australia means that there’s always an excuse to BBQ your favourite meat, fish and seafood, whether it’s the height of summer or the middle of winter. Warm up with some steaks, corn on the cob, sausages, burgers, chicken and veg sticks or kebabs on the hot flames and pair it with your favourite salads, bread rolls and more for the ultimate winter feast.

National Blueberry Muffin Day (11th July)

Anyone for a delicious blueberry muffin for breakfast or afternoon treat? I absolutely love blueberry muffins, particularly as they tend to be a lot juicier and moist compared to chocolate chip ones. I particularly love them when they come out straight from the oven and you can enjoy them warm, with a milkshake, fresh juice or delicious cup of tea. The perfect way to start the day.

Mac and Cheese Day (14th July)

You honestly can’t beat mac and cheese, particularly in the middle of winter. It’s the ultimate hearty winter meal – don’t think of the carbs! I love mine with at least four cheeses to get that tasty bite with a thick crust on top, but all gooey inside. I usually make mine with bacon, but you could try it with cauliflower too or sausages, maybe lobster if you’re feeling lavish. Add some truffle oil for silky, cheese heaven!

National Ice Cream Day (18th July)

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream…even in winter! I absolutely love vanilla ice cream (also celebrated this month on 23rd July), rum and raisin and hokey pokey (thank you New Zealand!). Chocolate chip or salted caramel are also pretty good too. Whatever your favourite, make sure you grab a cup or cone and celebrate, or simply enjoy a scoop or two on waffles instead!

Wine and Cheese Day (25th July)

Did someone say wine and cheese? Two of my absolute favourite things paired together on one day – hell yes! You honestly can’t beat a good wine and cheese night full of creamy brie, vintage cheddar, smoked cheese, chilli cheese, bitey blues and everything in-between! Basically, you will see me in cheese heaven with a selection of crackers, deli meats, nuts, dried fruit, smoked salmon and more to accompany this scrumptious cheese and wine fest!

International Chicken Wing Day 29 July

International Chicken Wing Day (29th July)

Another one of my favourites...chicken wings! The absolute best entrée, sharing side or just enjoy it all to yourself as a main meal with a kilo of wings! I love mine crispy on the outside, but juicy on the inside, preferably covered in some sort of paprika, cajun spices and hot sauce on top. I also love them with blue cheese or Jack Daniel’s sauce! Bring me a bucket of chicken wings and I’ll be your best friend as I still haven’t quite perfected cooking them at home without deep frying them! (Apparently though the air fryer works a treat – I guess I’ll just have to experiment even more to find out!).
