We’re halfway through Autumn in Sydney and it’s starting to feel more autumnal. The days are getting shorter and darker, the weather is getting cooler and the leaves are turning crimsons, reds and burnt oranges. This means lots of hearty meals, baking and warming drinks.
The foodie calendar for May though is pretty eventful and exciting with an incredible number of food days to look forward to. I particularly can’t wait for National Chocolate Truffle Day on 2nd May, National Shrimp Day on 9th May and National Cheese Souffle Day on 18th May and that’s only a few!
Some of my favourite May national food days that I am most looking forward to include the following:
National Crepe Suzette Day (6th May)
Crepe Suzettes, one of my absolute favourite desserts! There’s nothing like dining at a French restaurant and watching the waiting staff prepare the Crepes Suzettes at the table and seeing them flambeed in front of you. Caramelised sauce with orange juice and liqueur – delicious!
Moscato Day (9th May)
Anyone for Moscato? Although I love to enjoy this sweet wine more in the summer, I can literally drink Moscato throughout the year especially pre-dinner. Its sweet taste makes this super drinkable and extremely moreish. Browns Brothers Moscato is a particular favourite of mine, but if you’re on a budget, the Moscato from Aldi is a cheap, but delicious alternative!
National Apple Pie Day (13th May)
Who loves apple pie? Another great dessert to enjoy in the cooler months, especially when plenty of spice and cinnamon is used. I love to have my apple pie warm with vanilla ice cream or double cream spooned on top.

National Quiche Lorraine Day (20th May)
Quiche Lorraine…mmm one of my absolute weaknesses! Although quiches are nice warm, I actually prefer them cold with a potato salad or as they are. They are great to have with cold deli meats, a green salad, baby tomatoes and cheese.
